23 years in recovery! :-)
My name is Tim. I’m a person living in long-term recovery from addiction. For me that means I haven’t had to use alcohol or any other drugs for the past 23 years. I almost died in 1992 after destroying my 4th motor vehicle while driving drunk and spending a week in a coma. I’ve achieved most of my recovery by working 12-step programs since 1996. I switched to SMART recovery in 2017 because the scientific approach appeals to me. Since 2017 I credit the SMART recovery program for my continued success with recovery from addiction.

Congratulations Timothy1996
Well done on your evolving life, growth and awarenessWhat got me sober was TRYING to get sober. Often when I lapsed, picked up, drank, I FELT thoroughly beaten. I thought at that time "there is no hope for me"Yet, when I had recovered from that thought just a little, I thought "I'll have another GO!"
It was a few little sparks, rather than a flame, that got me here!

I think that fact that you almost died because of your addiction, was motivation enough to stop it. Its the same with me, but my addiction is different, it increases stress levels and is just not good for sleeping habits.
