Anniversary Today! 4 years free from bulimia :O)
I stopped drinking a while ago now, but for 44+ years I had also been fighting an entrenched eating disorder with binging and purging. When I joined SMART I didn't know what it would do for me, but I'd tried everything else, so why not try SMART too? Well, it turned out that SMART was different. Using a mix of the amazing tools on offer, the meetings and the forum, after a year or so something clicked. I still can't believe it ..... but I have now been abstinent from both binging and purging for 4 years.
More than anything SMART has taught me how to stay with bad feelings without escaping into my old toxic behaviours. I CAN get through those rough days without blocking everything out with binging and purging. Also the longer I stayed in SMART, the more I learnt about how to handle those difficult feelings - often resulting from my "irrational or unhelpful beliefs". The tools are brilliant at helping us cut through our habitual and often skewed ways of thinking.
I am also hugely grateful for the general wisdom, support and warmth that I have experienced here . As Morgan9 once said, "Peer group support is SMART's secret sauce." All in all I owe a huge thank you to SMART ideas and the wonderful SMART community..... They have helped me turn my life around.

This just made my day, huge congratulations Caroline. I don't have this particular BOC but have worked with women who do so have a little understanding of the magnitide of the challenge. Unlike alcohol, it's not like you could just stop eating.
LOVE & HUGS, JamesI can't always make it better but I don't have to make it any worse.

What a lovely triumph of a human over a human condition!
Go, you good thing, Caroline14!
As you have moved through your growth and development, you have reached out a hand, and thought, to help another move forward in their journey.
You have added so much secret sauce to this place
Well done, congratulations, and I commend and acknowledge you for your many contributionsWhat got me sober was TRYING to get sober. Often when I lapsed, picked up, drank, I FELT thoroughly beaten. I thought at that time "there is no hope for me"Yet, when I had recovered from that thought just a little, I thought "I'll have another GO!"
It was a few little sparks, rather than a flame, that got me here!
